An account of the regular ICF Congress which was held in Amsterdam (the Netherlands) from September 30 to October 4, 2014 is given. The Congress focused on the economic situation in Europe and the resulting prospects of future development of energy and telecommunication cables. The main aspects of the Congress focus are the following: • Improvement of cable and wire quality and anticounterfeiting activities against manufacturers of infringing and counterfeited products; standardization; • Dealing with economic problems in cable production; • Performance of work aimed at eliminating damages of cable products during installation; • Safety assurance work at domestic production facilities; • Charity activities.

A brief review of the current production of self-supporting insulated and protected conductors for overhead power transmission lines in Russia and other CIS countries is given. The development of customer demand for these conductors is analyzed, the development of production and demand is estimated and economic aspects of self-supporting insulated conductor production are outlined.

Specific features of modern bare conductors for overhead power transmission lines
Information about new types of conductors for overhead power transmission lines is summarized in the paper. Conductors are classified according to the crosssection geometry and applied core and conductor layers materials. Advantages and disadvantages of different conductor types are described. Consideration is given to the specific features of high-temperature conductors and composite core conductors.

Production of innovative aluminium allo ys in Russia (based on the report made at the General meeting of the Elec -trocable Association , 15–19 September , 2014)
The paper is based on the report of K.Sh. Mangutov, General Director of OOO «EM-KAT», at the Electrocable Association General meeting which was held in Saint-Petersburg on 15–19 September, 2014. A review and comparative analysis of the products manufactured by OOO «EM-KAT» are presented in the paper. The process of rod production of the aluminium alloys Al-Mg-Si of 6101, 6201, Al59 types and of the thermally stable aluminium alloy Al-Zr of AZrK-9,5 type is described. Examples of the thermally stable aluminium alloy used in conductor constructions are given.

Practical experience of the communication line installation in an industrial building
Practical experience of the communication line installation in an industrial building was investigated. Some new technical solutions enabling to increase the dynamic power range of the communication line are offered. Due to the application of these methods overall optical losses in the communication line were reduced to 1.2 dB.
