Abstract
The data concerning the production scale of MV cables insulated with peroxide-cured and silane-cured polyethylene (PE) in the post-Soviet states are presented. The latter type of cables meets the national standard GOST R 55025–2012 requirement for the dielectric strength in the initial state and after the two-year electrochemical ageing. It is shown also that water tree sizes in silane-cured PE after the 2-year wet ageing test meet the requirement of GOST R 55025-2012 and correspond to the values of peroxide-cured PE.
The unbiased results of the study and the tests, as well as the positive experience of commercial operation permit to make a conclusion that the application of 6-20 kV cables insulated with silane-cured PE in medium voltage grid is rightful.

The use of copper for the production of cable and wire products in Russia

Abstract
The analysis of the existing Russian capacities for production of copper wire rod and their loading shows that in 2005 the installed capacity made 683 thousand tons, and loading made 87 %. In 2018 the installed capacity increased to 931 thousand tons, and the loading decreased to 46 %. In
recent years share of scrap in the production of wire rod has increased dramatically. In 2018 the share of wire rod, which is used in the production of scrap and waste, was 53 %. This led to a deterioration in the quality of the cable made from such wire rod, and the cable itself, being disposed of, turns into a «bad» copper scrap. Another problem is the tax risk associated with the optimization of the value added tax on the acquisition and processing of scrap and waste copper.

High-quality copper rod enables successful wire drawing and annealing

Abstract
Drawing of copper wire, manufactured from copper scrap, leads to the reduction of production efficiency. Impurities are reducing the electrical conductivity of the wire and increasing the temperature of annealing. Production costs are growing accordingly. Market share of scrap copper in Russia is reasing. Recycling of copper scrap needs careful selection and purification before manufacturing of the cooper rod.

Analysis of the performance of XLPE-insulated power cable screen grounding systems

Abstract
The authors analyze the specific performance of XLPE-insulated cables with different schemes of screen bonding and grounding. Based on the analysis results they suggest that three-core cables with sector-shaped conductors and a screen of thermal- and corrosion-resistant aluminum alloy should be considered as an alternative to single-core cables.

Extended liability of wire and cable producers and importers

Abstract
The authors of the article justify the necessity of exclusion of Group № 40 (electrical cable and wire) from the List of finished products to be disposed in accordance with Law № 89-FZ «On production and consumption wastes».
